A scenic interpretive tour of agriculture landscapes of the Sugar Cane and banana industries take us on a journey arriving into the township of Innisfail, the heart of the Cassowary Coast. A historic agricultural town with a facade of original art deco buildings rich European culture and pioneer history. Stopping briefly outside the town library to view the extraordinary photographic collage by local artist Liz Gallie's of the Cassowary Coast titled ” From the Range to the Reef” our special place.
Connecting you to culture a short drive on we arrive at Goondoi wetlands for the Cassowary Dreamtime Tour. Meet the Traditional Custodians of lands belonging to the Dyirribarra and Bagirbarra people. Welcomed by Goondoi Culture Tours to embark on a cultural experience. Guests are given welcome to Country Ceremony with traditional Dance, learn about the Dreamtime story of the Cassowary, journey on a guided walk through the Wetlands to learn about bush foods, traditional knowledge of sacred trees, Juwumba, Milbur and Jugurru. Learn the art of weaving, sand art, language and dance. Guests enjoy a freshly prepared lunch of tropical fruits, sandwiches and cold drinks provided by Radiant Life College.
South to the scenic town of Mourilyan onto Mourilyan Harbour, the journey traverses the Moresby Range National Park with scenic views across the wetlands East of Innisfail, with opportunities to sight the Southern Cassowary wandering through its lands as we arrive into Etty Bay. The hidden gem where the range meets the reef. It is time to connect to nature ,take off the shoes wet the feet and walk along the golden sands along the ocean edge. Take in the surrounding natural beauty of the Cassowary Coast. Etty Bay is one of the few places in the world where you can view Cassowary’s walking along the beach. Guides provide insightful knowledge of the behaviors and characteristics of the Cassowary and the importance to the ecosystem and biodiversity of the reef and rainforest. A chance to engage with your guide in a comprehensive talk of the importance of protecting and preserving the environment, the effects of climate change in this area. Your guide will share some interesting tips on what you can do to help reduce impact on wildlife and the environment.
Final destination before Cairns is Babinda Queensland's wettest coastal town. We spend the afternoon at Babinda Boulders to explore the junction of two creeks from Queensland's Highest mountain, Chooreechillum (Bartle Frere). The opportunity to enjoy an afternoon swim within a rainforest setting and learn about the infamous Devil’s Pools. Learn about the Traditional Landowners, Wanjurr Majay people, and the significant culture importance of flora and fauna, and dreamtime story. Your guide will prepare a cup of tea or coffee served with local freshly baked cake or slice for you to enjoy while taking in the tranquil surrounds.
